Coordinates: 57 ° 52 '  N , 11 ° 59'  O Kungälv is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province Västra län . The main town is Kungälv . Other settlements are the city of Marstrand , the villages of Diseröd, Kareby, Kode, Kärna, Tjuvkil and other smaller villages.

The municipality of Kungälv is about 20 km north of Gothenburg . It extends from Göta älv to the Skagerrak coast . The northern arm of Göta älv forms the southern and eastern municipal boundaries. The municipality also includes the archipelago off the coast , on which the town of Marstrand, an important tourist center, is located.

economy

The economy of the municipality of Kungälv is characterized by its proximity to the city of Gothenburg. In addition to some industrial companies in the central town, Kungälv is also an important service center with a large proportion of public administration. The largest employers are the municipality and the provincial parliament.

Tourism is important on the coast, especially in Marstrand, one of the most important seaside resorts and leisure harbors on the west coast since the 19th century.
