The Athletics Center Quelle Fürth (LAC Quelle) is an athletics club in Fürth, which belongs to the TV Fürth 1860 . The club is one of the most successful athletics clubs in Bavaria and is one of the top clubs in Germany.

history

Established in 1969

On November 10, 1969, the athletics department of the TV Fürth 1860 was renamed the Athletics Club Quelle im TV Fürth 1860 (LAC Quelle Fürth for short). This was done to thank the former owner of the Quelle company , Gustav Schickedanz , for the support .

1970s

At the beginning of the 1970s, the walkers (e.g. Bernd Kannenberg ) were particularly successful in sport.

In 1978 the LAC became the most successful sports club in Germany with its sporting successes .

1980s

In the early 1980s, the LAC v. a. many victories at cross-country championships and in 1982 he won his 20th cross-title.

Patriz Ilg won the 3000 meter obstacle course at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 and the 5000 meter run at the European Cup in Moscow in 1985 .

Christian Haas was the club's most successful sprinter. In the 1980s he dominated the German championships in the 100-meter run almost continuously as the title holder. The sporting highlight was in 1983 the 6th place at the World Championships in Helsinki. In that year he also set a German record with 10.16 s. Over 200 meters , he has had 20.46 seconds. There were many other international missions over the years with the 4 x 100 meter sprint relay of the DLV . With this he reached 6th place at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988.

The shot putter Claudia Losch was one of the club's figureheads for a long time and won the German championships as a club member from 1983 to 1986 and from 1989 to 1991. She also became an Olympic champion in 1984 .

1990s

Under the name LAC Quelle Fürth / Munich 1860, the LAC Quelle was from 1992 the athletics starting community between TV Fürth 1860 and TSV 1860 Munich .

In 1993 this new athletics community won the first German championship title. Bernhard Zintl was German champion in the pole vault at the German Indoor Championships, further titles followed.

Since 2000

The club's great talents included the middle distance runners René Bauschinger (U20 European champion) and Julia Hiller (7th of the U20 World Championships in Beijing in 2006), Anne Kesselring (multiple German youth and junior champion, multiple finalist in U20 and U23 European championships) and World Championships), as well as Jannika John (11th of the U20 European Championships 2011 in Tallinn )

From 2003 to 2005 the LAZ Kreis Würzburg belonged to the starting community of LAC Quelle. At the end of 2009 the starting partnership with TSV 1860 Munich was ended.

A major upheaval occurred with the bankruptcy of the longstanding main sponsor and supporter Quelle . This affected both the club and the athletics department of the Munich partner, which could not replace the missing funding and could no longer adequately support top-class coaches and athletes. The most famous departures from Munich were Verena Sailer , her trainer Valerij Bauer and Christian Blum .

Since 2008: realignment and recovery

A realignment of the club structure away from the no longer financially sustainable professional (high) performance sports club towards a youth development center bore full fruit. Concentrating on one's own youth work paid off, and regional and supraregional talents are joining the club again, which is the only individual club exclusively among club associations (starting communities, LG's) to maintain its position in the top 10 ranking of the German athletics club. With Mitku Seboka (10000 m 2015) and Anne Kesselring (800 m 2012), in addition to titles in the junior and youth age classes, German championship titles could be won for the first time since Verena Sailer.

The top performers of the traditional club are currently Amelie-Sophie Lederer (U23 European champion 4 × 100 m 2015), Katharina Winkler (German school champion block all-around 2011 and other following youth championship medals up to 2015), Konstantin Wedel (U23 European championship participant, medal winner at Cross- DM), Mitku Seboka (German champion 10,000 2015), Anne Kesselring (German champion 800 m 2012), Jamie Williamson (German youth champion 800 m & 1500 m 2014 & 2015) and Julia Hiller (German champion 3000 m obstacle 2007).
