Labi (Brunei)

Labi ( Malay Mukim Labi ) is a Mukim or administrative district of the Daerah Belait of Brunei . The district is subordinate to a Penghulu , currently the incumbent is Haji Kamarhan bin Atma (since July 7th, 2003).

The district extends from the center of the district to the southwest. It has no access to the South China Sea , which is just a few kilometers north, but shares borders with most of the other mukim in the district. It borders on Liang in the north, Bukit Sawat in the northeast, Sukang in the east, and forms the border with Sarawak ( Malaysia ) in the south and west and with Mukim Kuala Balai and Seria in the northwest. The Labi Forest Reserve extends in the densely forested south . An important river is the Sungai Rampayoh , most of the rivers drain into the sea via the Sungai Belait . In 2006 Labi had 2,300 inhabitants.

education

In Labi there are only elementary schools ( Labi Primary School , Rampayoh Primary School , Chung Hwa School ). Local residents have to go to Seria or Kuala Belait cities for secondary schools .

Institutions and business

The Labi Health Clinic is the only hospital (since October 2002).

The area of ​​Labi, located in the plains of Belait, is known for its agricultural products. Rice, fruits and vegetables are grown. The limau labi orange variety in particular has become a brand. The Brunei Agricultural Department has set up an office in Labi to look after the farmers on site. In 2003, an estimated 607 tons of vegetables were produced in Labi, around 1,700 tons of fruit and 170 tons of rice.
