Serasa ( Malay Mukim Serasa ) is a Mukim or administrative district of the Daerah (district) Brunei-Muara of Brunei . The northernmost district of Brunei is surrounded on three sides by the South China Sea . The district is under a Malay penghulu . The current incumbent is Johari bin Abdul Razak . In 2014 there were 16,242 inhabitants. Serasa is also home to the “city” of Pekan Muara and Muara Port , the country's main port.

geography

Serasa is the north-easternmost Mukim in the Brunei-Muara district and thus the northernmost district in Brunei as a whole. The border to the inland is formed by the Mukim Mentiri in the west; in the north it borders the South China Sea, which merges into Brunei Bay in the east and south . The state of Sarawak in Malaysia begins just a few kilometers further southeast on Tanjong Gosok (Tanjong Trusan, ) .

The Mukim Serasa on the mainland also includes several islands or sandbanks: To the north of the coast are the Pelong Rocks ( Malay Pulau Pilong-Pilongan ) and to the east, within Brunei Bay, is the island of Pulau Muara Besar . The island is connected to the mainland by the Jambatan Pulau Muara Besar (Pulau Muara Besar Bridge).

The Pelumpong Spit (headland Pelumpong) was originally the eastern extension of the headland of Muara, but was separated from the mainland by the construction of a canal and is now a narrow island. The canal gives easier access to the Muara Port , which was otherwise only accessible through the Anson Passage .

Serasa Spit is an artificial headland that extends from Tanjong Serasa in the south to the south-east and serves as a bathing beach. The Royal Brunei Yacht Club is also located at their starting point .

In the south of Serasa the short Sungai Salar flows into Brunei Bay; a part of its catchment area is known as Bukit Pisang Tempayan Recreational Park designed

Administrative division

The Mukim is officially divided into six further Kmapong (villages), whereby Muara is considered a "city", although it does not have its own administration:

Pelumpong is uninhabited and includes only the Pelumpong Spit.

Brooketon Colliery is an abandoned coal mine . It dates from the time of Charles Johnson Brooke's rule of Sarawak in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Royal Brunei Navy is stationed in Muara .
