geography

Districts in Belait

Melilas is located in the extreme south of the Belait district and is therefore also the southernmost Mukim Brunei. To the north only the Mukim borders Sukang , to the south the Mukim is surrounded by the state of Sarawak in Malaysia .

The administrative district is located in the hinterland of Brunei, where dense rainforest predominates. A large part of the Mukim belongs to the Labi Forest Reserve . The Mukim lies in the plain and the southern boundary is marked by the flanks of the Melilas Formation , which rises from the plain of the Belait Syncline . South of the border in Sarawak, the Gunung Mulu and Mount Benarat massifs rise up in the Gunung Mulu National Park . On the Brunei side, the Batu Patam (with 227  m ) is the most important elevation. Significant rivers in the district are Sungai Ara Nibong, Sungai Aru Lirang , and Sungai Tropong .

Administrative division

The Mukim Bukit Sawat consists of the localities:

  • Kampong Tempinak
  • Kampong Melilas
  • Kampong Bengerang II

Each of these localities has its own local council (ketua kampung).
