In 1867 the first whites settled near Black Hawk Lake. In 1880, a station for the North Western Transportation railway company was built here. The station and the place were initially called Flechter. In 1887 the place was renamed Lake View.

As of the 2010 census , Lake View was home to 1,142 people in 564 households. The population density was 179.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, 1.95 people lived in each of the 564 households.
Ethnically, the population consisted only of whites with eight exceptions.
16.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 53.4 percent were between 18 and 64 and 30.5 percent were 65 years or older. 52.8 percent of the population were female.
