history
The town of Schaller was founded in 1879 with the construction of a railway station for North Western Transportation . The place named after the German immigrant Phillip Schaller was incorporated as an independent municipality in 1882. The city developed into a trading center for the surrounding farms, which were laid out by immigrants from the East and Europe after the construction of the railway. A small manufacturing industry for agricultural goods emerged in the 20th century. In the 1970s the railroad was shut down.
