Lance Barber (born June 29, 1973 in Battle Creek , Michigan ) is an American actor who gained fame through his numerous appearances on US television.

life and career

Lance Barber was born and raised in Battle Creek, Michigan, USA, and felt the desire to be an actor at the age of seven after seeing a performance of Grease at the Barn Theater . During his time at Pennfield High School , which he graduated from in 1991, he already appeared in several school productions. He then did the same at Kellogg Community College .

After a year at the Barn Theater, where he appeared with Jennifer Garner , Barber moved to Chicago , where he was part of an improvisational comedy group for Second City for a while. He then moved to Los Angeles to get better access to acting roles. He was first seen on camera in 2001, after appearing on an episode of Emergency Room . As a result, Barber appeared in numerous television series, primarily episode roles, including On the Spot , Joey , Gilmore Girls , Californication , The Mentalist , CSI: Miami , Grey's Anatomy , The Big Bang Theory , How I Met Your Mother , Franklin & Bash , Hot in Cleveland , Masters of Sex , Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Black-ish .

His film appearances include works such as Like Mike , Bad Meat , The Godfather of Green Bay , The Lather Effect , Long Live Hollywood , A Tempting Game or Gangster Squad . Furthermore, Barber was seen in recurring series roles, so he played irregularly from 2005 to 2014 as Paulie G. in The Comeback . From 2014 to 2016 he was involved in Faking It . He also appeared in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as Billy Ponderosa from 2010 to 2017.

In 2017 he was cast in a leading role for the sitcom Young Sheldon . He plays George Cooper, Sr. , the father of the genius Sheldon Cooper in the spin-off of the hit series The Big Bang Theory , which tells the story behind the series . The cast of Barbers in the role of the father caused confusion among some fans after he was already seen in the mother series in the role of the bully Jimmy Speckerman .

Private

Barber lives in Los Angeles with his wife Aliza, a chef, and their two children.
