history

Traunstein has been the court of the Bavarian dukes since the two Erharting treaties of 1254 and 1275 . Since 1803 there was an older Bavarian regional court in Traunstein.

Since 1857 there was also a district court in Traunstein, which can be regarded as the predecessor of today's regional court. In 1879, the then District Court of Traunstein was renamed the District Court of Traunstein in accordance with the nationwide court constitution law of 1877. In the subordinate were 9 regional courts, which in turn were now called local courts (Aibling, Berchtesgaden, Laufen, Prien, Reichenhall, Rosenheim, Tittmoning, Traunstein, Trostberg). Traunstein received 4 district courts (Altötting, Burghausen, Mühldorf, Wasserburg) in addition to the district court of the dissolved Wasserburg District Court. The Tittmoning District Court and the Prien District Court were repealed by the subordinate local courts in 1930 and in 1942/1959 . In the course of the territorial reform in 1973, the district courts were concentrated on only one for each of the now larger districts, which corresponded to a halving, while the district court district remained unchanged.
