geography

Langenthal Church

The village is 3 kilometers south of the Weser and 4 kilometers west of the Diemel . The core city of Trendelburg is 5 kilometers southeast, Beverungen 5.5 kilometers north, Kassel 34 kilometers south, Paderborn 42 km northwest and Hanover 86 km north-northwest.

history

Langenthal was founded around 1168 and was owned by Helmarshausen until the Reformation . The place was named after the extensive valley floor at the upper end of which the village lies. The town center is criss-crossed by green spaces and you can see the typical half-timbered houses of the Diemel Valley , reminiscent of an anger village . On the nearby Hölleberg there is an airfield for powered aircraft.

On December 31, 1970 , as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the municipality of Langenthal merged with six other previously independent municipalities and the small town of Trendelburg to form the expanded town of Trendelburg . They make up today's districts . The city administration is located in the core town of Trendelburg.

Economy and Infrastructure

The importance of agriculture in the town, which is known regionally for its cherry cultivation, has declined significantly in recent decades; There is no industry on site. In Langenthal with its numerous half-timbered houses that are well worth seeing, there are overnight stays in two guest houses and in holiday apartments. In the vicinity there are numerous sights such as the Sababurg im Reinhardswald , the Trendelburg and the Krukenburg as well as the cities of Bad Karlshafen , Höxter and Hofgeismar .
