Scott studied history at Harvard University , where he was the captain of the tennis team and was voted in the All-American selection. In 1987 he played his first full year as a professional tennis player. His best result of the year and at the same time his greatest career success was the tournament victory in Newport . In his only title on the ATP World Tour , he beat the pairing of Chip Hooper and Mike Leach alongside Dan Goldie . In the same year he was with Grant Connell in the final of the Lorraine Open . The following years were no longer so successful; best results in 1988 were quarter-finals in Auckland , Rotterdam , Philadelphia and Schenectady , and 1989 was also disappointing. In 1990 he only took part in one tournament, where he was eliminated in doubles alongside Tommy Ho in the first round. He played his last match in July 1991, when he was eliminated from New Haven in the first round of the Challenger tournament . He reached the highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1987 with position 210 in singles and 69 in doubles.
His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round of Wimbledon . In the doubles competition he was in the second round of Wimbledon and the US Open . In mixed he reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon in 1987.
