The 1996/97 season in performance class A was the eighth edition of the top division in Swiss women's ice hockey and also the eleventh Swiss championship. The DHC Lyss women's team , which split off from the main club SC Lyss before the season , won the title for the fourth time in the club's history . The EHC Bülach / EHC Illnau-Effretikon syndicate was relegated to performance class B and was replaced by the winner of the second division, DEHC Biel .
