geography

history

The square was cleared by the Teutonic Order in the 13th century and created as a Grundholde . In 1294 this was first mentioned as "the wood Lerchenberch" in a deed of donation, in which Burgrave Friedrich III. of Nuremberg left the Virnsberg Castle and its possessions to the Teutonic Order. It is not clear whether the place name is derived from the tree larch or the songbird lark .

In 1568 a Kunz Sturm asked the Teutonic Order for permission to buy the "Lergenmühle" building.

Towards the end of the 18th century, the Lerchenbergsmühle belonged to Oberdachstetten. The mill had the Obervogteiamt Virnsberg of the Teutonic Order as landlord . Until 1795 still a fiefdom of the Teutonic Order, in that year it was forcibly incorporated into the Margraviate of Ansbach-Bayreuth by Prussia . From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach . Under the Prussian administration, the Lerchenbergmühle was given house number 65 in the village of Oberdachstetten. In 1806 it came to Bavaria. As part of the community edict, Lerchenbergsmühle was assigned to the Oberdachstetten tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Oberdachstetten, founded in 1810 .

In 1978/79 the mill was completely renewed and renovated. Besides Sturm, Horn, Müller, Frühwirth, Aßmann and Wittig are also known as former owner names. The Hahn family had owned the mill since 1864. The daughter Marie Hahn later married Georg Schmidt from Steinach. The granddaughter Hildegard of the two married Johann Bodächtel and continued to run the mill as a miller's companion until 1988 after the death of her father (1946). From then on it is only a purely agricultural property.
