LesArt , the Berlin center for children's and youth literature, is a public institution for the promotion of culture in the State of Berlin .

The literary house for children and young people is located at Weinmeisterstraße 5 in Berlin-Mitte and is one of the five publicly funded literary houses in Berlin.

background

The sponsoring association of LesArt is the association founded on May 23, 1990 for the promotion of children's and youth literature (eV). The aim of the association is "... to promote reading as a prerequisite for the cultural development of every person" (statute). Members of the association are writers and literary intermediaries (authors, illustrators, editors, librarians, teachers, scientists and students).

concept

LesArt has been developing creative models for literary and aesthetic education since April 2, 1993 (Hans Christian Andersen Day), incorporating all the arts and media. These are based on childhood or adolescent life, reading and picture experiences.

In addition to teaching classical material, the events are based on the books nominated or awarded as part of the German Youth Literature Prize. LesArt uses this as a reliable choice.

LesArt acts as a coordinator and cooperation partner for children's and youth literary activities in Berlin, Germany and beyond. With this in mind, the Literaturhaus initiates and multiplies event models for children, young people and adults in Berlin outside the house, nationwide and in other countries.
