Levi Nelson (born April 28, 1988 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Sheffield Steelers in the British Elite Ice Hockey League since 2015 .

Career

Nelson played for the Swift Current Broncos in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League between 2004 and 2008 . On February 18, 2004, the center debuted in the encounter against the Prince Albert Raiders in the WHL and scored his first goal a day later against the Lethbridge Hurricanes . After completing his second season with the Broncos, Nelson was named in-team Rookie of the Year after finishing the regular season with a record of 38 scorer points in 63 games. In the 2006/07 season the attacker finally established himself in the squad of the Swift Current Broncos under head coach Dean Chynoweth and ended his third season in the Western Hockey League for the first time as the team's best scorer. In the same season Nelson also ran for the first time for the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League on the ice after he was selected in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round in 158th place. In April 2008 Nelson signed a three-year entry - level contract with the Boston Bruins.

Before the start of the 2008/09 season , he made the final jump to the roster of the farm team , the Providence Bruins from the American Hockey League. In the 2009/10 season he only made 44 appearances due to injury, but with 13 points he achieved his best point yield in the AHL to date. In December 2010, the center was transferred from the Boston Bruins to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Juraj Šimek . The 2010/11 season ended Nelson at the Norfolk Admirals , who were with the Tampa Bay Lightning in a cooperation. In July 2011 Nelson moved to ESV Kaufbeuren for one season in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga .

After a short interlude in the ECHL , he moved to the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg in January 2013, where he should bring the decisive advantage for the last quarter of the season in the fight for the pre-playoff places. In his first DEL game on February 1, 2012 against the Straubing Tigers , he scored his first goal. As a result, Nelson did not provide the performance he required, so his contract was not extended at the end of the season. In the summer of 2013, he switched to the Italian Elite A , where he signed with Ritten Sport . After winning both the Italian championship and the cup competition with the South Tyroleans in 2014 , he returned to North America, where he played for the Idaho Steelheads for a year in the ECHL. He then joined the Sheffield Steelers , with whom he won the main round of the Elite Ice Hockey League and the British championship in 2016 . In the following year it was only enough for third place in the EIHL preliminary round, but he was able to win the playoffs with the Steelers by a 6: 5 success in the final against main round winner Cardiff Devils , where he marked the decisive winner in the second extra time.

International

Nelson represented his home country at the 2006 U18 World Youth Championship . In seven games he remained pointless and received twelve penalty minutes. The Canadian team finished fourth at the end of the tournament.
