Levin Hermann Otto von Düring (born March 14, 1769 in Ruschbaden , † April 23, 1838 in Stargard in Pomerania ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He comes from the old Bremen-Brunswick noble family von Düring . Members of the family fought for Sweden , Denmark and Prussia. His parents were the court judge and heir to Ruschbaden Johann Wilhelm Friedrich von Düring (* July 28, 1736 - August 7, 1804) and his wife Klara Margarethe, née von Lingen (* 1745 - February 21, 1789).

Military career

Düring came in 1786 as a corporal corporal in the infantry regiment "Jung-Woldeck" the Prussian army and advanced to the end of July 1787 Ensign . As such, he took part in the campaign in Holland and was able to distinguish himself in the battle near Amstelveen . On March 26, 1791, he was promoted to second lieutenant. Düring fought in the subsequent First Coalition War in the Battle of Pirmasens , the cannonade near Valmy and the skirmishes near Deidesheim , at the Kettricher Hof, near Frankenthal , the Schätzel Weißenburg and the storm on Bitsch . He was wounded in Frankenthal and on the Schätzel.

On August 13, 1797, Düring was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and on January 7, 1805, to staff captain . During the Fourth Coalition War he was taken prisoner with the surrender of the Hameln Fortress and was made inactive.

On January 4, 1812, Düring joined the army as a captain and was transferred to the gendarmerie on February 6, 1713 . In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , he was promoted to major and joined the 1st Neumärk Landwehr Infantry Regiment as a battalion leader. He fought in the battles near Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig , Laon as well as the storming of Arnhem and the battles near Hoogstaeten, Antwerp and the sieges of Wittenberg and Soissons . For Dennewitz Düring was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and on March 23, 1815 with the Order of Saint Anna II. Class. In addition, he was appointed commander of the 1st Neumärk Landwehr Regiment on April 2, 1815, and in this position was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 3, 1815 . From February 27, 1816 to June 4, 1818, Düring belonged to the salaried tribe of the 2nd Frankfurter Landwehr Regiment. He was then transferred to the 14th Infantry Regiment as commander . Düring married on June 9, 1796 in Minden Maria Klara Anna Gertrudis Vehring (* August 10, 1766, † November 6, 1847), the second daughter of the Austrian chief surgeon Henricus Vehring. The couple had several children including:
