Old school in Lindenberg

In 1348 the village of Lindenberg was first mentioned as "Ly (n) tenberg" ("settlement on the mountain with / near the lime trees") and belonged to the Hassenberg court . In 1826 the place came from Sachsen-Coburg to Sachsen-Meiningen .

The manor of the von Redwitz family fell to the Rosenau family in 1704, was owned by the von Würzburg family from 1724 to 1779, then owned by the Kanne family until it was dissolved in 1920. The citizens of the place were mostly as linen weavers, bricklayers and miners. The village was considered poor until the second half of the 20th century.

After the places Sichelreuth and Lindenberg had formed a community association for a short time in 1923/24, Lindenberg was incorporated into Sichelreuth on July 1, 1950. The local school was closed in 1980.

On January 1, 1993, Sichelreuth and Lindenberg were incorporated into Neuhaus-Schierschnitz. On July 6, 2018, this merged with other municipalities to form the municipality of Föritztal.
