Straßer competed in his first race as a six-year-old on a skiing holiday in Tyrol . He was a member of the Kitzbühel Ski Club before moving to the ski department of TSV 1860 Munich at the age of twelve . At the age of 15 he started in FIS races from December 2007 . It was used for the first time in the European Cup in February 2010. He won his first FIS race in February 2011, a month later he became German slalom junior champion. Due to injury, Straßer missed the entire 2011/12 season, during which time he graduated from high school . In January 2013 he won the German slalom junior championship again.
On December 14, 2013, Straßer won a European Cup race for the first time, the parallel slalom of St. Vigil . He made his World Cup debut on October 27, 2013 in the giant slalom in Sölden , which he finished in 52nd place. At the end of March 2014, he won the title of German giant slalom champion and the bronze medal in slalom. Together with Lena and Katharina Dürr as well as Thomas Dreßen , he also won the German championship title in the team competition with the team of the Munich Ski Association .
In the 2014/15 season , Straßer played regularly in the World Cup. On January 6, 2015, he finished 20th in the Zagreb slalom , winning World Cup points for the first time; he equalized this result five days later in Adelboden . Straßer achieved further increases on January 25th with 14th place in the World Cup slalom in Kitzbühel and on January 27th with fifth place in the Schladming night slalom . Because of these good results, he qualified for the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships , where he finished 10th in slalom. At the men's competition at the City Event in Stockholm on January 31, 2017, Straßer won his first World Cup victory, the first German victory since Felix Neureuther's slalom victory on February 14, 2016 in Naeba, Japan .
