Disused train stations

The Kalkum station on the Düsseldorf – Duisburg railway line , which opened in 1846 and was recently barely used , was shut down on May 27, 1990, so that the travel times of the S-Bahn did not increase after the Düsseldorf Airport station, which is only 1.5 kilometers further south, went into operation . In the end, lines S 1 and S 21 stopped here .

For goods traffic, there was the former, now largely demolished Düsseldorf-Derendorf marshalling yard in the north of the city, the completely dismantled Düsseldorf-Bilk station in the west, and the also disused Düsseldorf-Lierenfeld station southeast of the main station.

The largest freight yard near Düsseldorf is now the former marshalling yard in neighboring Neuss .

Planning

With the introduction of the Rhein-Ruhr-Express ( RRX ), originally only the existing long-distance train stations were to become stops for the regional express train within the Düsseldorf city limits. In the meantime, however, Düsseldorf-Benrath has also been included as a stop in the detailed planning of the RRX.

An expansion of the S-Bahn station Bilk into another stop for regional traffic is also planned.
