The following list shows an incomplete overview of former and current brigade commanders of the Austrian Armed Forces of the 2nd Republic. In addition, the former or current rank and, if known, the period of service are given.

history

On June 22, 1956, the first group and brigade commands of the 2nd Republic were set up. In addition to three groups (commands in Vienna , Graz and Salzburg ), eight brigades (including four mountain brigades) with a total of 32 battalions were formed. On August 1, 1960, the 9th Panzer Brigade was also set up in Götzendorf .

In the early 1960s, the 3rd and 4th Brigades were converted into Panzergrenadierbrigaden. Several army formations (1972, 1978 and 1992), structural adjustments (1998) and reorganizations repeatedly changed the number and organization of the Austrian brigades. Some brigades have meanwhile been run as reserve or mobilization brigades (res / mob), others have been converted into training or hunter regiments . From 1975 to 1999 the mobilization responsibility of the mob brigades (1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th) lay with the respective military command or with the responsible training, Landwehr tribe, hunter or staff regiments.

From 1999 (structural adjustment in 1998) there were only five brigades left in Austria (1st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th). In 2006 the 1st Jäger Brigade based in Eisenstadt was disbanded. At present, four brigades with a total of 22 battalions are subordinate to the armed forces command. In addition to the two mechanized armored infantry brigades (3rd, 4th), these are the 6th (mountain brigade) and 7th Jägerbrigade (airmobile). The two tank grenadier brigades are commanded exclusively by general staff officers . Command management is currently generally limited to five years. However, an extension of the service period is possible.
