The Mountain Combat Command was formed from the associations of the 6th Jäger Brigade as part of the 2016 army reform . Several battalions and units of different arms in Tyrol , Carinthia and Salzburg are subordinate to him. The command of the association is in Absam .

history

As a consequence of the refugee crisis in 2015 , the armed forces increased their number of units on the one hand and further specialization and reorganization on the other. For the former 6th Jäger Brigade this had the consequence that it was transferred to the Mountain Combat Command as part of this reform .

The following area of responsibility was assigned to the armed forces' range of tasks to the newly created association:

"The command is characterized by its ability to operate in the high mountains and in difficult terrain ... In addition, the command takes on tasks within the framework of a European center for mountain combat and coordinates the training of the mountain-mobile troops of the armed forces."

Due to this specialization in operations in the mountains, the pack animal center in Hochfilzen and the mountain combat center in Saalfelden were placed under the control of the transfer .

In return, the 23rd Jäger Battalion, previously subordinated to the 6th Jäger Brigade, was assigned to the Vorarlberg military command . The staff battalion 6 , which was also subordinate to it , was disbanded, and a large part of the team transferred to the newly established Jäger battalion 6 , which is stationed in Innsbruck and is directly subordinate to the Tyrolean military command.

structure

The Mountain Combat Command has the following structure:

Role of the mountain combat center in the European network

In the course of the centralization of the armed forces schools to the army troop school, the hunter school housed in the Anton Wallner barracks in Saalfelden migrated to Burgenland in 2008 . Instead, a mountain combat center was set up in Saalfelden, where not only soldiers from the armed forces but also specialists from friendly countries are trained in mountain combat.

This facility received a special appreciation in 2012 when Austria took on a leading role in the military training of high mountain units in various EU countries as part of the EU- wide Pooling & Sharing (P&S) Mountain Training Initiative or MTI , with a close relationship especially with the German Bundeswehr Cooperation developed.

With the specialization of the armed forces further promoted by the federal army reform in 2016 , it was therefore natural to subordinate the mountain combat center to the newly created mountain combat command.
