List of architectural monuments in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The monuments of the Upper Bavarian town of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm are compiled on this page . This table is a partial list of the list of architectural monuments in Bavaria . The basis is the Bavarian Monument List , which was first drawn up on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973 and has since been managed by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . The following information does not replace the legally binding information from the monument protection authority.

Pfaffenhofen - Ensemble Hauptplatz

File number: E-1-86-143-1

Pfaffenhofen (engraving by Merian)

The ensemble includes the main square of Pfaffenhofen with its surrounding buildings, which forms the historical core of the city. It extends between the town hall in the east and the parish church with its mighty tower in the west including the neo-renaissance building that forms the narrow western side of the square, corresponding to the town hall in the east. The side walls on the south side are mainly formed by gabled houses and on the north side by eaves breeches, mostly new buildings or conversions after 1800.

Pfaffenhofen is mentioned for the first time around the middle of the 12th century, even then the place was closely connected with the Wittelsbach family, to whom it owed its rise to a large extent and whose castle may have stood in the area of the "Hofberg". Under the protection of this castle, the settlement became increasingly important and was first referred to as a market at the end of the 12th century. Duke Ludwig den Kelheimer is believed to be the founder. However, Pfaffenhofen only became a town in the legal sense in the 15th century. This is possibly in connection with the completion of the curtain wall (remains preserved), the construction of which is mentioned in 1437, without an explicit city elevation having been made beforehand.

To the south of the “Hofberg”, the floor plan of the buildings facing the Auengasse still reveals an original clustered village, while the two districts to the north of the main square suggest a planned layout. This expansion of the settlement is probably related to the reconstruction after the fire in 1388.

The main square with a fountain

Between these different parts of the city lies the 40 m wide and almost 300 m long main square, over which the road from Munich to Ingolstadt ascends from the Ilm valley. The expansion and course from east to west document the importance of the street market as a traffic, rest and trading place as a result of a historically and topographically favorable situation. The location between these disgruent parts of the city is also evident in the layout of the square. While the southern wall of the square swings slightly concave outwards, the northern wall of the square is strictly straight, interrupted by the former castle complex that protrudes into the square, which is now the district office and the rent office. Architectural dominants are the neo-Gothic town hall built in 1865/68 and the former schoolhouse built in 1877, designed in neo-renaissance forms, which each form the narrow sides of the main square, as well as the town parish church, which was redesigned in the 17th century in Baroque style. Due to its exposed urban development, the former rent office is also more prominent.

The plastered and colored residential and commercial buildings on the long sides of the square show the overall architectural proportions of a bourgeois town with reference to trade and commerce. The last formative reshaping of the plaza was essentially completed in the Heimat style by 1920.

The disproportionate building of the district office has a disruptive effect on the ensemble. In addition, there have been significant losses in historical building fabric since the 1960s.

Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm
Hauptplatz 7
( location )
Residential and commercial building With a rich neo-renaissance facade, inscribed "1892"

Justification of the BLfD: The facade design alone does not constitute a monument property within the meaning of Article 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (DSchG) .

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The monument property - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the monument atlas or the entry in the Bavarian monument list. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
