Backdoor pilot

CSI: NY first aired during the second season of the CSI: Miami series. The pilot episode Searching For Clues in New York premiered in the US on May 17, 2004 on CBS . The German-language premiere showed the German Free TV transmitter RTL on May 24 of 2005.

A small chest containing the body of a young man is found on the beach at Coney Island. The dead man's body is strangely twisted, but the x-rays show that no bone is broken in his body. Since it is absolutely impossible to stow a body in such a small box without breaking a bone, Mac and Stella realize that the boy must have climbed into the box himself. The only question is: did he do it voluntarily, or was he forced to?

Jenny Lee, 22, is found in a laundry with her throat cut. The body was wrapped in a sheet at the Dunsmore Hotel, which is currently the residence of foreign diplomat Robert Costa and his entourage. Mac finds evidence that Jenny was drugged with the sleeping pill Rohypnol in Costa's suite, but Costa cannot have been the culprit, because he had also drunk some of the Rohypnol-infused champagne.

A college student is found shot dead in his ransacked home. The search for the student's murderers leads through the first traces of the New York drug scene. The CSI team finds the remains of pure, unprocessed heroin at the crime scene and discovers that the murder victim shared the apartment with a woman who has now disappeared.

Undercover policeman Rodney Minhas is fatally injured in a car chase in a subway station. Since Danny was also involved in the shooting, Mac tells him not to speak to Chief Hillborne of Internal Investigations until the forensic investigation is complete. Meanwhile, footage from the surveillance cameras shows that Minhas had identified himself as a police officer before the fatal shots were fired.

Gilbert Novotny, a Boston Red Sox fan, collapses at the wheel of his car after a team game. A little later, the young sports agent Margo Trent is wandering around town in her nightgown and is run over by a truck. Mac and his team step in and quickly discover that there is a connection between the two cases.

While Mac is having breakfast in his regular café, an unknown man suddenly opens a fire in the middle of the restaurant. The shooting leaves an injured waitress and a dead man. In the chaos, Mac decides to come to the aid of the injured woman instead of pursuing the perpetrator. However, Mac soon reaches its limits in the following investigation, as one of the main suspects is covered by the FBI.

The first broadcast of the second season was from September 28, 2005 to May 17, 2006 on the US broadcaster CBS .
