The list of Grade I buildings in Cheshire lists the Listed Buildings in Cheshire , about 80 entries, of which about half of church buildings , with the exception of those in Chester , from the list of Grade I monuments in Chester are seen . Of the approximately 373,000 Listed Buildings in England about 9000, or about 2.4%, as a Grade I classified.
Most historic buildings in Cheshire are made of sandstone or brick masonry or is Holzfachwerkbauten . The churches are mostly built of stone, private houses are mostly made of bricks. Limestone is also used in part in the eastern part of the county . Cheshire has a higher percentage of half-timbered buildings than most other counties in England. Nikolaus Pevsner names half-timbered church buildings as a specialty of Cheshire and states that these buildings are the earliest of their kind in Europe.
