List of cultural assets in Thun (East)
The list of cultural assets in Thun (East) contains all objects in the eastern part of the city of Thun in the canton of Bern that are in accordance with the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict , the Federal Act of June 20, 2014 on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and the Ordinance of October 29, 2014 on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict . Objects are listed in the districts east of the Aare (Altstadt, Bälliz-Freienhofgasse , Goldiwil and Lauenen-Hofstetten-Ried).
Objects in categories A and B are completely included in the list, objects in category C are currently missing (as of January 1, 2018). Among other monuments protected objects are found, the "worthy of protection" in the canton of Bern Bauinventar than are listed.

Built around 1485 and several times since then changed town house in the late Gothic style is one of the oldest most representative buildings of the city. Its massive floor is keyed dome window over squat arch - arbors divided, is attached to it an overhanging corner bay with spire . In terms of room division and furnishings, the former merchant's residence is one of the most valuable in the canton.

The Thun town hall was built around 1500 using older parts of the building. It was given its current form with a new, generous square facade under a uniform quarter- hipped roof. A roof turret with three bells and an archive tower under a Welscher hood were added in 1762. The arcade has impressive wooden posts and Louis-quinze doors with arched frames.

Donjon built around 1190 on behalf of Duke Berthold V von Zähringen , rebuilt between 1430 and 1436, has been used as a historical museum since 1888. This excellently preserved hilltop castle in an impressive location above the city is a rectangular, massive building made of plastered quarry stone, reinforced with semi-circular corner turrets . Unique, late Romanesque representational architecture influenced by French facilities .

The hotel, built in 1830 and now used as an old people's home, is an elegant, rectangular, classicist plastered building, raised in 1865 by a half-timbered storey with a hipped roof and transverse gable and expanded with peripheral axes and balconies. The north-facing dining room extension with a semicircular exedra was added around 1880, the entrance peristyle with a glass canopy in 1891.

Hotel built between 1873 and 1875 , since 1942 used by the city administration and as an art museum. The first luxury hotel in Thuns is a mighty, clearly structured plastered building of historicism in the forms of the French Renaissance . The regular four-wing system with corner towers under a mansard roof with decorative hatches is accentuated by a dominant corner projecting in the northwest.

Built in 1793/94 as a hospital, later as a school building and now used for residential purposes, it is a highly representative solid building with a baroque facade. The central axis is emphasized by a portal with lateral columns and cornice over the windows on the first floor. The French banding of the ground floor is characteristic, the corners of the building are marked by upholstered blocks.

The fortifications on the mountain side of the old town of Thun date back to the middle of the 13th century and were built on the orders of the Kyburger . In addition to walls, gates and trenches, they also include several defensive towers that set a striking urban accent. These include the Chutziturm, the Venner-Zyro-Turm and the Schwäbisturm (also known as the Lochturm).

Lock construction built in 1726 and redesigned in 1818 , the superstructure of which is a solid wooden structure under a gable roof . The bridge roof, which is covered with plain tiles, has a tower-like roof structure on the southeastern part that covered the machine house with the two screw chairs from 1726.

Baroque style church building built in 1738 according to plans by Paulus Nader , dominated by the octagonal front tower from around 1330/40, which decisively shapes the cityscape. The nave under a mighty hipped roof and a grooved roof overhang 1738 is a large hall building with a three-sided end, a characteristic example of the cool preaching rooms of the Protestant Baroque.

The Thun City Archive advises the administration in the field of document management and takes on documents that are worth archiving. The holdings include documents and files of all kinds from the city of Thun from 1832 and from the abolished communities Strättligen and Goldiwil , various deposits from associations and private individuals, a photo collection and a newspaper archive.

The archive of the Thun civic community is housed in the tower of the town hall. It includes deeds, documents and books from the 13th to the 19th century, mainly documents from the city administration such as council and commission minutes, invoices, Rödel, incoming and outgoing correspondence (a total of around 150 linear meters).

The house, first mentioned in 1406, was the seat of the Carthusian Order in Thun from 1464 until the Reformation in 1528 . After that it was used as a tannery and restaurant, today as a residential building. The impressive late Gothic solid building under a hipped roof with a formerly open roof structure is one of the most important secular buildings in the city.

Museum founded in 1948 at the suggestion of the Thun painter Alfred Glaus, whose collection includes around 7,000 works. It presents mainly contemporary art in four to five changing exhibitions a year. In addition to thematically and monographically oriented special exhibitions, a collection exhibition is set up each year, which presents some of the rich holdings from a special perspective. |
