List of cultural assets in Thun (West)

The list of cultural assets in Thun (West) contains all objects in the western part of the city of Thun in the canton of Bern that are subject to the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict , the Federal Act of June 20, 2014 on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and the Ordinance of October 29, 2014 on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict . Objects are listed in the districts west of the Aare (Aarefeld, Allmendingen , Buchholz , Dürrenast , Gwatt , Hohmad , Lerchenfeld , military area, Neufeld , Schoren , Seefeld and Westquartier).

Objects in categories A and B are completely included in the list, objects in category C are currently missing (as of January 1, 2018). Among other monuments protected objects are found, the "worthy of protection" in the canton of Bern Bauinventar than are listed.

Paddle steamer built in 1906 by Escher Wyss AG on behalf of the “Oberländische Dampfschifffahrts-Gesellschaft” . The ship with a length of 63.45 m and a width of 13.15 m has a 650 HP two-cylinder composite steam engine . After it was decommissioned in 1971 and remained idle for two decades, it was restored by the Vaporama Association and has been operating again on Lake Thun since 1992 .

The church building, located in the Strättligen district directly at the outflow of the Aare from Lake Thun , was built around the year 1000, but was first mentioned in a document as early as 762. Low Romanesque nave with high, narrow arched windows under a saddle roof that was subsequently raised . The slim tower attached to it dates from the 12th or 13th century, the polygonal Gothic choir from the second half of the 14th century.

The castle , built between 1848 and 1852 according to plans by Pierre-Charles Dusillon, is one of the most important historicist buildings of the Romantic era in Switzerland. It stands in a English garden at the outflow of the Aare from Thun and in the design of the Loire castles and country houses in the Tudor Gothic ajar.

In a rotunda near Schadau Castle , the round picture of the city of Thun painted by Marquard Wocher between 1809 and 1814 is shown; The painting, measuring around 7.5 × 38 meters, is the oldest preserved circular painting in the world today. The rotunda, built in 1960/61 by city architect Karl Keller, consists of ten radially arranged reinforced concrete pillars with exposed brick infills.

The Campagne , built in 1763 on behalf of Landvogt Emanuel Fischer , which has been used as a music school since 1976, is a stately late Baroque plastered building under a mighty hipped roof . The two-story arbor porch dates from around 1830, an extension from 1922. Inside, rich furnishings. Park landscape with basins, garden ground floor, enclosure wall, garden pavilion and boathouse, bounded by a lake canal and tree-lined avenues.

The barracks of the Swiss Army , built between 1864 and 1868 and modified several times since then, is an extensive complex in the form of a rectangular fort with corner towers and a monumental central projection as the entrance. Lower tracts with glazed arcades and interior rooms extend between the towers and the central projectile.

In 1824, the remains of a Roman temple precinct with eight small walled temples were discovered . The central sanctuary of the region was in use from the 1st to 4th centuries. It comprised a sacred part in the north and a secular part with farm buildings and accommodation for staff and travelers.

The station building of the SBB train station was built between 1920 and 1923 according to plans by Hans Wilhelm Auer . The highly representative Haustein - and plastered building of the reform Baroque has a symmetrical, elongated structure under multi-stage bending hipped roof with characteristic Lukarnenreihe . A temple-like facade with remarkable artificial stone - tracery forms the middle wing, in it is the former counter hall with wooden barrel and wall paintings.

This part of the Swiss Army barracks , built in 1901/02, is a massive plastered building in traditional neo-renaissance forms . It has a higher, axial entrance risalit with a staircase, which is accentuated with banding and a large arched window. The facades are characterized by regular window axes and strong structural elements.
