List of residential castles in Thuringia
This article lists the former residential castles in the German state of Thuringia .
Among the hundreds of castles in the country, around 30 residential castles occupy a special position. They served dukes, counts and princes as permanent residences and are often very representative. Due to the particular territorial fragmentation of Thuringia in the early modern period, the country is one of the most residential areas in Europe. A residence covers an area of around 500 km². The most important of them were the Ernestine main residences in Weimar, Coburg and Gotha, the Schwarzburg main residence Rudolstadt and the main Reussian residence Greiz.
The sorting is done alphabetically according to the current place name.
