In Switzerland , the national championships in the athletics discipline of the marathon run are held annually by the Swiss Athletics Association . Women have run the marathon distance since 1978.

Most successful athletes

Elisabeth Krieg was Swiss marathon champion seven times between 1992 and 2004, Marco Kaminski six times and Richard Umberg won this title five times between 1977 and 1987.
