List of governors of Upper Germany

The list of governors of Upper Germany contains the names of all officials who are known to govern this Roman province during the Principate's time .

Instructions for use:

  • The terms of office as governor can sometimes only be determined with uncertainty. More detailed explanations of the dating can be found in the individual articles.
  • Most first names are abbreviated according to ancient practice, a solution can be found in the article "Roman first name" .
  • For clear allocation, the year in which the respective person served as consul is also given, if known .
  • The references in the ancient (literary and epigraphic ) sources are given for each governorship . In the case of inscriptions, only one modern publication is given, preferably the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum or the "Année épigraphique" .

Remarks

  1. A newly found inscription from Tusculum shows that Aulus Caecina Largus in the long-known inscription CIL X, 6639 does not belong to his name, as previously assumed, but is the name of a suffect consul from the year 13.
