Eugen Frohnhausen was born in Haldensleben and learned the trade of a businessman from his uncle Oskar Löwenstein. He worked in his iron shop in Neuhaldensleben , became a partner and in 1923 finally the sole owner. After the Nazis came to power, he had to give up his business. It fell to his former authorized signatory , who was also the husband of the niece of Frohnhausen's wife Jeanne. When confidential news of his imminent deportation reached him on December 18, 1942, he committed suicide in his house. Eugen Frohnhausen was the last remaining practicing Jew in Haldensleben ; with him the community founded in 1808 went out. His grave is in the Israelite cemetery in Magdeburg . |
