List of stumbling blocks in Dessau-Roßlau
The list of stumbling blocks in Dessau-Roßlau contains all stumbling blocks that were laid by Gunter Demnig in Dessau-Roßlau as part of the art project of the same name . They are intended to commemorate the victims of National Socialism who lived and worked in Dessau and Roßlau . Between 2008 and 2017, a total of 102 stones were laid at 55 addresses.

The city of Dessau-Roßlau has been participating in the Stolperstein project by the artist Gunter Demnig since 2008. This was legally made possible by a city council resolution in November 2007. The relocations are coordinated by the Memorial Culture project, an association of local associations and individuals. The project management lies with Kiez e. V. Dessau. The first relocations took place on May 19, 2008; Dessau-Roßlau was the 337th city in Germany and the seventh in Saxony-Anhalt to join the project. Since then, more stones have followed about once a year:

- August 24, 2009: twelve stones at six addresses
- October 28, 2010: 13 stones at four addresses
- October 27, 2011: eleven stones at six addresses
- September 27, 2012: twelve stones at eight addresses
- May 22, 2013: ten stones at seven addresses
- March 26, 2014: eleven stones at nine addresses
- March 20, 2015: 14 stones at seven addresses
- October 1, 2015: a stone at an address
- March 28, 2017: seven stones at five addresses
The people honored with stumbling blocks include Jews or people of Jewish descent, politically persecuted people (especially members of the SPD and KPD ), Jehovah's Witnesses and victims of the T4 campaign who lived or worked in Dessau-Roßlau. Most of the stumbling blocks were laid in front of the last home chosen by the people concerned.

Paul König came from Dessau. He had served as a soldier in World War I and was badly wounded. He was married and had a daughter. König was a member of the KPD and, after its ban in 1933, was the liaison of the Dessau local group to the district leadership in Magdeburg . He was arrested in 1936 for “preparing a treasonous enterprise” and sentenced to five years in prison, which he served in the Coswig prison. Instead of being released, he was transferred to Sachsenhausen concentration camp after the end of his detention . On July 11, 1941, he was probably murdered by lethal injection in the Pirna-Sonnenstein killing center . |

Käthe Mariam was born in Oberpleis and worked as a nurse. She was married and had two children. Her husband and children were able to immigrate to the United Kingdom and the United States , respectively . Käthe Mariam was to follow them later, but this was prevented by the outbreak of World War II . On November 17, 1941, she was deported to Kovno via Berlin and murdered on November 25th immediately after her arrival. |

Franz Alexander came from Dessau. He worked as a book auditor and, because of his Protestant mother, was considered a " half-Jew " according to the Nuremberg race laws . From 1938 he was no longer allowed to practice his profession. Because he had a relationship with a non-Jewish woman, he was arrested in November 1939 and sentenced on January 15, 1940 to three years in prison for " racial disgrace ", which he was to serve in the Coswig prison. After two and a half years in prison, he was deported “to the east” in July 1942. His further fate is unknown. |

In the course of the “ Poland Action ” he was deported to Poland at the end of October 1938, but was able to return to Dessau for a short time in July 1939 to close his household and business. Dora Feder was born in Dessau and worked as a cook. She was the daughter of Josef and Sophie Schuber. Her two brothers were able to emigrate to Palestine. Her husband Idisor Feder was interned in Buchenwald concentration camp from 1939 and survived his captivity. Dora Feder lived with the Goudsmid family in Franzstrasse until 1941. Then she moved to Berlin . From there she was deported to the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942 and further to the Majdanek concentration camp in April 1943 . Her exact date of death is unknown. |

Josef Schuber came from Kulaskowce ( Kolomea district ). During the First World War he had served as a medic in the Austro-Hungarian army. He ran a department store in Dessau. In 1935 his citizenship in Anhalt was revoked. His business " Aryanized " after the November pogroms in 1938 . In July 1939 he emigrated with his wife to live with their sons in Palestine. He died in Haifa in 1951 . |

Salomon Jacobson was born in Zerbst and worked as a wholesaler in Dessau. After the National Socialists came to power, he worked as a real estate broker and secretary for the Jewish community. In November 1938 he was interned in the Buchenwald concentration camp, where he died on November 27 of the prison conditions. His wife Elisabeth managed to escape to Palestine in 1939. His sister Lea (see Beethovenstrasse 9) was probably murdered in occupied Poland. |

Gustav Hoch was born in Zurich and was the son of the journalist and politician Gustav Hoch (senior) (see Franzstrasse / Askanische Strasse). Highly studied medicine and served in the First World War as a military doctor . After the end of the war he worked as a medical practitioner in Frankfurt am Main and Luckenwalde , and in 1929 he became medical advisor in Meißen. In 1932 he opened a practice in Dessau. In November 1938 he was arrested and interned in Buchenwald concentration camp. On April 13, 1942, he and his family were deported to the Warsaw Ghetto and from there to the Majdanek concentration camp, where he was presumably murdered on June 12, 1943. |

Karl Lemnitz came from Bobbau . He served as a soldier in World War I, but was sentenced to eight years in prison in 1916 for insulting a superior and deserting him. In December 1918 he was pardoned. In 1932 he became a member of the KPD and the Red Front Fighter League . Shortly after the National Socialists came to power, he was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison for “resisting state power and attempting to free prisoners”. In March 1934 there was a second charge of "preparing a treasonous enterprise". Because of a diagnosis of lung cancer , he was granted a six-month break in prison. After returning to prison, he died on February 20, 1935 in Coswig prison. |

Friedrich Mentzel worked as an engineer in the Junkers works in Dessau . His open opposition to National Socialism earned him a short prison sentence in 1944. After his release, he worked temporarily in a Junkers branch in southern Germany, but returned to Dessau in the spring of 1945. On April 20, several National Socialists stormed his house to hang him. When he resisted, they beat him to death. |

Hermann Heller came from Törten and worked as a lathe operator. He was a member of the SPD and an open opponent of the National Socialist regime. In 1940 he was arrested and sentenced on August 22nd to 15 months in prison for "listening to foreign broadcasters", which he served in Coswig and in the "Elbe Regulation" prison camp in Griebo . An operation was necessary due to cancer, but this was delayed by the authorities. When he was allowed to return to Dessau in May 1941, help was no longer possible. Hermann Heller died on November 22, 1941. |

Hans Heinen came from Groß-Moyeuvre and worked as a moulder. Since 1929 he was a member of the KPD and since 1930 of the Red Front Fighter League. He has been sentenced to several prison terms for “preparing a treasonous enterprise” and illegally possessing weapons. Between October 1933 and February 1934 he was interned in the Roßlau concentration camp, and then in Coswig prison for nine months. When he refused in September 1939 to help dig a splinter trench at the Junkers factories, he was transferred to Sachsenhausen concentration camp for "subversive behavior" and shot there on September 8th. |

Hugo Jacoby was born in Dessau and was a member of the KPD. He was head of the Dessau local groups of the KPD and the Red Aid . Jacoby ran a bookbinding, newspaper distribution, and typewriter business. He was arrested in June 1933 and interned in the Oranienburg concentration camp from July 5 to October 1 . Then he was transferred to the Roßlau concentration camp. There he was subjected to abuse as a result of which he died on August 17, 1935. |

Gustav Hoch (senior) (1862–1942) Gustav Hoch came from Neubrück , Province of Posen . After completing a business apprenticeship and attending grammar school in Stolp , he studied political science in Berlin, Königsberg and Zurich from 1885 . In 1888 he joined the SPD . From 1890 he worked as a writer and editor in Frankfurt am Main, and in 1895 he opened a book and tobacco shop in Hanau. 1898–1903 and 1910–1918 he was a member of the Reichstag and 1902–1908 and 1910–1919 city councilor in Hanau. In 1919/20 he was a member of the Weimar National Assembly and then again a member of the Reichstag until 1928. After the National Socialists came to power he was imprisoned between June and September 1933. He later had to do forced labor. In May 1939 he lived temporarily with his son Gustav and his family in the "Judenhaus" in Franzstrasse in Dessau, and later in Berlin. On July 21, 1942 he was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, where he died on October 4, 1942. His son Gustav, his wife and two grandchildren (see August-Bebel-Platz 24) were murdered in Majdanek. His second son Fritz survived the war. |

Ignaz Bloch came from Tirschenreuth and worked as a chemist in the Aken sugar factory. He was married and had two children. After his wife's death in 1936, he moved to Berlin, but kept a secondary residence in Dessau. From Berlin he was deported to the Litzmannstadt ghetto at the beginning of November , where he died on March 23, 1942. His two children were able to emigrate to Palestine. |

He was a member of the SPD and the Reichsbanner Black-Red-Gold Association . Feuerherdt was married and had two children. On the night of July 9th to 10th, 1932, he and some members of his Reichsbannergruppe got into a fight with the National Socialists. He suffered life-threatening stab wounds and died shortly afterwards in hospital. The investigation into murder, which had already started, was canceled by the public prosecutor. |

Paul Wolle came from Magdeburg and moved to Dessau in 1930. He was married and had two children. Wool was a trained car painter, but had been unemployed since 1929. He joined the KPD in 1923, but was expelled in 1926. In 1931 he rejoined the party. After the party was banned in 1933, he tried to set up a local group of the Left Opposition . On October 21, 1933, he was arrested in Merseburg and initially spent several months in "protective" and pre-trial detention. On April 29, 1935, he was sentenced to two years in prison for “preparing to commit high treason”, whereby the previous prison term was taken into account. He was arrested again in September 1939 and deported to Sachsenhausen concentration camp on October 13th. He died there on December 22, 1939, officially of pneumonia . |

Ida Wunderlich was a member of the communist youth movement and the KPD. In 1930 she became pregnant, but was left alone by the child's father. After a complicated birth, she fell ill with postpartum depression , which neither improved with inpatient treatment nor with her return to her parents' home. On July 6, 1940, she was admitted to the Hoym State Hospital. From there she was transferred to the Bernburg killing center in 1941 and murdered with gas on April 21, 1941. |

Paul Kmiec (1893-1946) Paul Kmiec was born in Dessau and worked as a blacksmith. During the First World War he served in the navy and took part in the Kiel sailors' uprising in November 1918 . He was a member of the KPD, co-founder of the Dessau local group and from 1924 a member of the state parliament of the Free State of Anhalt . After the KPD was banned, he was arrested on March 17, 1933 and interned first in Oranienburg concentration camp until 1934 and then in Roßlau concentration camp. In July 1944 he was arrested again and interned in Buchenwald concentration camp. The camp was liberated on April 11, 1945. In the summer of 1945 Kmiec briefly took over the management of the KPD sub-district of Dessau. He died on March 25, 1946 as a result of his imprisonment in the camp. |

He was arrested in July 1938 because of a relationship with a non-Jewish woman and sentenced to two years in prison for "racial disgrace", which he served in Coswig. Elise Steinmetz and her husband Willi were Jehovah's Witnesses . On December 21, 1937, they were convicted of "distributing illegal material with inflammatory political content". Elise Steinmetz was sentenced to 15 months in prison. Shortly before she was arrested, she was deported to Lichtenburg concentration camp in April 1939 and further to Ravensbrück concentration camp in May. There she found her death on April 27, 1942. |
