List of visited bodies in the solar system
This list includes bodies in the solar system that have been visited from Earth. All known visits are listed for each of these objects. This includes flights by “silent” space probes , which are assumed to have reached their destination based on orbit regulations . Failed missions that did not approach an astronomical object are not included. With the exception of the sun, approaches of less than 5 million kilometers are considered a “visit”.
Art | meaning |
---|---|
A. | Atmosphere probe |
L. | Countries |
O | Orbiter |
P | Sample return |
Q | Penetrator |
R. | rover |
H | Helicopter / multicopter |
V | Flyby |
The list is sorted in ascending order according to the distance of the celestial bodies from the sun or their respective central bodies (with the exception of the asteroids and comets), then chronologically according to the arrival (not the start date) of the mission. Daughter probes are separated from their parent probes whenever possible as they usually have a different history, but both can be numbered as a mission. An orbiter such as Cassini is only given once for Saturn, but for its moons each time it flies by (with the orbit numbering), as long as the probe does not enter an orbit around one of the moons itself.
- (Bracketed) consecutive numbers identify silent probes.
- The names of manned missions are shown in bold .
- The visits marked with a * were unplanned or unknowingly.
- The † mark here means that the body was only discovered during the visit.
- The closest approach and all soft landings are marked in bold in the last column.
Sun
All visits within Mercury's orbit or with a significantly lower mean distance from the Sun than Mercury are listed.

Small moons of Saturn
The following photos were all taken by Cassini:
For Cassini, the closest pass-by for each moon and all others at a distance of <10,000 km are given. For example, "Cassini (120)" stands for Cassini's 120th Saturn orbit since the Huygens landing .
