List of movies related to BDSM
After BDSM first appeared subliminally as a motif in some film productions, important literary works such as The Story of O and Venus in Furs were filmed in the early 1960s, some very explicitly. By the time it was filmed for 9½ weeks at the latest , the topic of BDSM was brought to the attention of a broad audience in an effective and commercially successful manner, whereby attention was paid to aesthetic mass compatibility.
Since the late 1990s, films like Preaching to the Perverted and Secretary have managed to combine commercial claim and authenticity. With the development of documentary productions such as SICK: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist and Wir Leben… SM! Another cinematic approach to the topic developed, which is aimed specifically at broad audience groups.
Films with a BDSM theme such as 9 1/2 Weeks , Tokyo Decadence or Secretary are now regularly shown on German television. Since 2001, the Canadian production KinK has for the first time also been an independent television series with BDSM as its content. It has not yet been broadcast in Germany. The range of productions is very large and shows that BDSM topics are now firmly anchored in the cinematic mainstream .
In addition to these more aesthetically oriented films, there is a broad market for sadomasochistic pornography in the form of porn films . As a typical representative of the exploitation genre, the Spanish director Jess Franco created a large number of films that are based, among other things, on the works of the Marquis de Sade and are partially indexed in Germany.
