List of piano concerts

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Sebastian Bach is considered to be the inventor of one of the most important genres of classical music: the piano concerto (then still harpsichord ). In his 5th Brandenburg Concerto he first used the harpsichord as a solo instrument in an orchestral piece. Since the classical period , the piano concerto has been one of the most important and richest genres of composition. Haydn wrote 20 piano concertos, Beethoven five, Mozart27 concerts. In the 19th century the piano concerto became a genre that was strongly characterized by virtuosity, but also by special constructive demands. The piano concerto also plays an important role in the music of the 20th century. Outstanding here are e.g. B. the concerts of Béla Bartók , Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich .
