Lyubov Valerijivna Bassowa , b. Schulika , ( Ukrainian Любов Валеріївна Басова (Шуліка) , English transcription Lyubov Basova (Shulika) ; born July 16, 1987 in Vinnytsia , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian track cyclist who specializes in short-term disciplines.
Athletic career
In 2005 Lyubow Bassowa was two-time junior European champion in the sprint and 500-meter time trial in Fiorenzuola d'Arda, and in the Keirin she became vice-European champion. In the same year she became junior world champion in Vienna . In 2006 she became junior world champion in sprint and runner-up world champion in time trial in Ghent , at the junior European championships in the same year she won three titles, in sprint, keirin and time trial. In 2007 she was again European sprint champion.
Bassowa has been competing in the elite class since 2008. At the UCI Track World Championships in Manchester in 2008 , she won the silver medal in the team pursuit together with Switlana Haljuk and Lesja Kalytowska . At the 2010 World Railroad Championships , she was unable to occupy any top places. In 2011, at the World Championships in Apeldoorn , she was fifth in the sprint and eighth in the keirin and team sprint (with Iryna Papeschuk ). At the UEC European Rail Championships in 2011 , she was European champion in sprint and vice-European champion in team sprint, with Olena Zjos .
At the Track Cycling World Cup 2011/12 , Bassowa took top places several times, so she won the sprint in Astana and took second place twice in the team sprint. At the 2012 UCI Track World Championships in Melbourne , she was fourth in the sprint.
In 2016 Lyubov Bassova was nominated for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she finished fifth in the Keirin. In 2017 she won the overall ranking in the Keirin of the Track Cycling World Cup 2016/17 , at the 2017/18 World Cup in Santiago de Chile she won the sprint and the team sprint with Olena Starykowa . At the UEC European Rail Championships in 2017 , she won bronze in the Keirin. The following year she won silver in the team sprint with Starykowa at the European Championships .
