The Louis Tidow, fire engines factory in Hannover (also: machinery and fire engines factory and fire-engine factory and equipment Construction Institute ) was at the beginning of industrialization in the Kingdom of Hanover founded company for the production of weaving machines and especially fire engines .

history

The company was founded in 1837 - half a decade before the first railway lines were built in Hanover - by Louis Tidow († 1878) as a "mechanical workshop".

In 1871, the year the German Empire was founded, Tidow expanded its previous range of weaving machines to include “hand pressure sprayers”, which were primarily needed by the fire services.

In the course of the company's history, the company has participated in exhibitions in various cities and has been honored with numerous awards , prizes and medals for its inventions and designs . This continued after the company's founder died in 1878 after his son Konrad Tidow took over the company. Konrad Tidow probably didn't design the first steam- powered water sprayers until around 1900 .

Around 1898, the company founded by Louis Tidow moved to Badenstedt, which at the time was just outside Hanover .

Around 1912 the company started producing gasoline engine-driven water sprayers.

The end of the company is believed to have been around 1925 during the Weimar Republic .

Known deliveries (incomplete)

Several steam pressure syringes from the Louis Tidow company are in "excellent condition" in some cases.

  • A handwritten dated letterhead from Louis Tidow to the “ Hittfeld Community ” has been preserved from December 11, 1880 .
  • In 1904, the volunteer fire brigade (FW) in Delmenhorst received a team from Louis Tidow with a steam boiler from the Ottenser Eisenwerke (near Altona ) and a water flow rate of 800 liters per minute.
  • From 1911, the FW in Braake owned a Tidow steam syringe.
  • The FW in Weetzen was one of the last to acquire a gasoline engine-driven fire extinguishing machine for 12,000 gold marks from the “Specialfabrik für Feuerspritzen”, but with a flow rate of only 600 liters per minute.
  • A hand pressure syringe from 1900 is at the Südbäke fire brigade (municipality of Rastede). It is fully operational and in excellent condition.

The hand pressure syringe is stored in an old syringe house that was built especially for you. During an operation, up to 15,000 liters of water go through in one afternoon. The old friends of the Südbäke fire brigade will lovingly take care of your Florentinchen.

  • In 1924 the community of Schameder bought a hand pressure syringe from Louis Tidow. This is still fully functional today. A fire-fighting team in historical uniforms appears at public demonstrations.
  • In Feuerwehrmuseum Marxen a fully functional hand pressure sprayer of Louis Tidow is also on display. Museum visitors can even operate the “Louise” hand-operated pressure syringe (named after the manufacturing company) themselves. The hand pressure syringe was previously used by the volunteer fire brigade in Quarrendorf (today the municipality of Hanstedt id Nordheide).
