Louis Zorich

Louis Zorich (born February 12, 1924 in Chicago , Illinois , † January 30, 2018 in New York City , New York ) was an American actor .

Life

Zorich grew up as the son of Yugoslav immigrants. He attended Roosevelt University and trained as an actor at the Goodman Theater School of Drama in Chicago. He began his career as a stage actor in Canada , and has worked successfully on Broadway and Off-Broadway since the early 1960s . He made his Broadway debut in 1960 with Laurence Olivier and Anthony Quinn in Jean Anouilhs Becket . He later appeared in productions of Dantons Tod , Moby-Dick, and alongside Dustin Hoffman and John Malkovich in Death of a Salesman . In 1969, he was for his performance in Hadrian VII. For the Tony Award nominated, in 1976, he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for They Knew What They Wanted .

Zorich had smaller film roles among others in 1968 alongside Clint Eastwood in Coogan's Big Bluff and in 1971 in Anatevka . He was later to be seen in The Muppets Conquer Manhattan and Two Adorably Depraved Villains, among others, but a real film career was not granted to him. In addition to guest appearances in television series such as Kojak - Einsatz in Manhattan , Spenser and Law & Order , he gained notoriety among US television audiences, primarily through his roles as Jules Berger in the series Brooklyn Bridge between 1991 and 1993 and as Burt Buchman in Mad About You Between 1993 and 1999. He was also a voice-over speaker for numerous commercials.

Zorich was married to actress Olympia Dukakis from 1962 until his death in 2018 and they have three children together.
