Ludwig Bene

Karl Theodor Ludwig Bene (born April 20, 1837 in Bochum ; † July 1920 ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Bene was the son of a councilor and his wife, a née Natorp.

Military career

Bene joined the 15th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as an avantageur on October 1, 1854 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-June 1857 . For three years from October 1861 he was adjutant of the 1st battalion in Minden , rose to prime lieutenant in January 1864 and took part in the war against Denmark in the same year . During the German War in 1866, Bene led the 5th company in the Main Campaign . In the battle near Dermbach he was involved in the storming of the Nebelberg and near Aschaffenburg , Bene was able to distinguish himself particularly by pushing back enemy riflemen over the Aschaff . For this he was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV Class with Swords. As captain and chief of the 5th Company, Bene took part in the Battle of Colombey during the war against France . On September 27, 1870, he was seriously wounded by a shot through the fingers of his right hand near Mercy-le-Haut and was awarded the Iron Cross II. Class and the Lippe Military Merit Medal.

After the peace was concluded in 1877, during the imperial maneuver near Düsseldorf , Bene was in command of the guard of honor and in command of Benrath Palace , where the emperor and his entourage stayed. At the end of April 1878 he was promoted to major and in mid-February 1880 he was appointed as a regular staff officer . On the occasion of the funeral of the head of the regiment Friedrich von Oranien-Nassau in Delft , Bene belonged to a delegation of his regiment in September 1881 and was appointed commander of the 1st battalion two months later. When he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , he came to Saarlouis as a regular staff officer in the 4th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 30 on December 3, 1885 . Insinuation à la suite commissioned to him on August 3, 1888, first with the leadership of the fourth Baden Infantry Regiment "Prince William" no. 112 and appointed Bene a day later with promotion to colonel to the regiment commander. As major general , he was then from May 16, 1891 in command of the 6th Infantry Brigade in Stettin . family

Bene was married to a Bozi. The marriage resulted in the son Gustav (* 1872), who also embarked on a military career in the Prussian Army and rose to lieutenant colonel.
