Ludwig Bräuler

Ludwig Bräuler (born May 8, 1845 in Darmstadt ; † May 20, 1928 in Aachen ) was a German civil engineer for railway construction and rector of RWTH Aachen University .

Live and act

After completing his studies, Ludwig Bräuler started as an assistant at RWTH Aachen University in 1870, before becoming a Dr. Phil. And his habilitation as a private lecturer for railway engineering. On October 1, 1892, the university transferred to Bräuler, who had meanwhile been promoted to railway construction inspector and secret government councilor, the professorship for road and railway construction of the Faculty of Civil Engineering with the main work and teaching area on movable bridges and tunnel construction . In addition, he headed the university as its rector from 1901 to 1904, succeeding Hans von Mangoldt . Finally, Bräuler retired in 1911.

He then took on various practical engineering activities in railway construction. "In recognition of his great contribution to the scientific revitalization of the railway system and its sub-areas at the Technical University of Aachen", he was awarded an honorary doctorate from RWTH Aachen on June 19, 1921, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his doctorate .
