Burkhard Rauhut

Burkhard Rauhut (* 22. July 1942 in Berlin ) is an emeritus professor of statistics and business mathematics at the RWTH Aachen and the former rector . He is also founding rector of GUtech in Oman .

After studying mathematics at the Free University of Berlin from 1961 to 1966, the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the University of Karlsruhe and subsequent doctorate and habilitation in 1970, he was an adjunct professor in Karlsruhe. In 1973 he was appointed to the chair for statistics and business mathematics in Aachen , where he also retired in 2008.

From September 1, 1999 to July 31, 2008 he was Rector of RWTH Aachen University, and from November 23, 2005 to March 21, 2006, he was acting President of the German Rectors' Conference . Since January 1st, 2006 he has been chairman of the board of the accreditation agency ASIIN . He pursued the internationalization of the RWTH, won the third funding line of the so-called " Excellence Initiative of the Federal Government and the States" with his university in 2007 and played a key role in the university's major construction projects, especially those aimed at improving student-related services (students -Service center “ SuperC ”, learning atelier “MOGAM”, seminar building “Semi 90”). In 2006 he pushed through the introduction of tuition fees. He has been a member of the University Council of TU Darmstadt since 2009 .

His successor as rector of RWTH Aachen was Ernst Schmachtenberg on August 1, 2008 .

After his retirement from September 2008 to March 2013, Rauhut was founding rector at the German University of Technology (GUTech) in Oman. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Center for University Development .

Burkhard Rauhut is married and has three children.
