Alfred Buntru

Alfred Buntru , (born January 15, 1887 in Schlageten / Baden (today part of the city of St. Blasien ), † January 23, 1974 in Aachen ) was a Sudeten German university professor. He was professor for hydraulic engineering and deputy lecturer leader .

Live and act

Buntru began studying engineering at the Technical University of Karlsruhe in 1905 and was active in the Karlsruhe fraternity of Tulla from 1905 . After graduating in 1910, Buntru was then responsible for the expansion of the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal (today's Kiel Canal), a new Baltic Sea lock and the construction of the pier for the Navy in Kiel . Finally, in 1914, he was initially taken on as a government builder in Karlsruhe, before taking part as a volunteer in World War I , most recently with the rank of first lieutenant . In 1919 he received his doctorate. Ing and in 1922 the habilitation took place in Karlsruhe.

After a year as a professor at the Tung Chi University in Shanghai , Buntru was professor at the German Technical University in Prague from 1928 to 1936 . In 1935/36 he was rector of the TH Prague. In 1936 he was appointed full professor for hydraulic engineering at the Technical University of Aachen. He joined the NSDAP in 1937 (membership number 3,979,305) and a year later the SS (membership number 313,909). At that time he carried out spy services for the SD . From 1936 to 1939 Buntru was rector of the TH Aachen . From 1939 to 1945 Buntru was again professor at the DTH Prague, where he was rector again between 1940 and 1945. In 1942/43 he was also appointed acting rector of the Tetschen-Liebwerd Agricultural University and the German Charles University in Prague . Buntru was also head of the Reinhard Heydrich Foundation . In 1943 he was appointed Gaudozentenführer Sudetenland and in 1944 Deputy Reichsdozentenführer. At that time, as SS-Oberführer he was confidante of the Sudeten German politician and SS-Obergruppenführer Konrad Henlein .

After the end of the Second World War and with the help of letters of discharge for his personal denazification procedure , issued by the post-war rector Paul Röntgen and others, he was again given a teaching position in Aachen in 1949 for hydrology , industrial hydraulic engineering and hydraulics , which he held until his retirement in 1962 exercised. On December 3, 1958, Alfred Buntru was made an honorary senator of RWTH Aachen University " in recognition of his great services to the Rheinisch Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen and his high level of commitment ". Since his return to Aachen, Buntru has been active in the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft .

As part of its processing of the activities of its university members during the Third Reich, the Historical Institute of RWTH Aachen University deals intensively with the work of Alfred Buntru with several literary writings.
