Ludwig Adolf Leberecht von der Schleuse (* December 21, 1782 in Tilsit , † April 17, 1845 in Stettin ) was a Prussian major general and 2nd in command of the Stettin Fortress .

Life

origin

The von der Schleuse family is said to come from Austria. Ludwig was the son of Tilsit's excise inspector Christian Jakob Daniel von der Schleuse and his wife Hanna Dorothea, née Weber (* 1764). His brother Daniel Gottlob died as a captain in 1813 as a result of the injuries he had suffered in the battle of Möckern .

Military career

Schleuse attended high school in Tilsit and then the cadet house in Kulm . On March 13, 1798 he was employed as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Schöning" of the Prussian Army . With the promotion to secondary lieutenant on May 8, 1803, he came to the grenadier battalion "von Below", which was formed from the grenadier companies of the regiments "von Brünneck" and "von Schöning". During the Fourth Coalition War , Schleuse took part in the bombardment of Thorn , the Battle of Prussian Eylau and the battle near Königsberg .

After the Peace of Tilsit , the Russian Emperor Alexander I gave him a gold watch on May 12, 1808 for his achievements in the 1807 campaign. On August 5, 1809, Schleuse joined the 2nd East Prussian Infantry Regiment as a prime lieutenant and advanced in December 1812 to the staff captain . During the Wars of Liberation , he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class near Luckau . On September 24, 1813 he became a captain and company commander . He fought in the Battle of the Katzbach , was wounded near Leipzig and was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV class. Schleuse also took part in the battles near Wartenburg , Löwenberg, Goldberg, Hochkirch, Bischofswerda, Laon , Chalons-sur-Marne, Saint-Dizier , La Chaussee, Chateau-Thierry , Mery-sur-Seine and Meaux.

After the war he was promoted to major on July 10, 1817 and appointed commander of the 1st battalion on September 1, 1817. In this position he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1832 with a patent from April 26, 1832 and was transferred to Stettin as 2nd commandant on July 20, 1834. Shortly thereafter, Schleuse was aggregated to the 3rd Infantry Regiment . On March 30, 1835, he was promoted to colonel with a patent from April 6, 1835, and as such Schleuse received the Order of the Red Eagle III on the occasion of the Order of the 1839 . Class with a bow. With his previous salary and patent from April 7, 1842, he was promoted to major general on March 30, 1842. Due to illness, Schleuse said goodbye on March 8, 1845 with an annual pension of 1750 thalers. He died in Stettin on April 17, 1845.

Schleuse married Emilie Philippine Charlotte Johanna Scheurich (1789-1852) in Berlin on October 21, 1814, stepdaughter of General Johann von Schmidt and daughter of the Court Secretary Scheurich. The couple had several children:
