Luke Gazdic (born July 25, 1989 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the San Diego Gulls in the American Hockey League since September 2018 . His brother Ben is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Luke Gazdic began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League , in which he was active from 2004 to 2006 for the North York Rangers and Wexford Raiders. He then played for three years for the Erie Otters from the Ontario Hockey League . During this period, the attacker was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 in the sixth round as a total of 172 players by the Dallas Stars . The 2008/09 season he spent with the Idaho Steelheads from the ECHL . He then injured himself in the Dallas Stars' summer training camp and was unable to start the season.

In four years with the Dallas Stars he was only used in the AHL with the Texas Stars . For the 2013/14 season he moved to the Edmonton Oilers , where he immediately prevailed in the NHL squad and came in his first NHL season on 67 missions. After three years in Edmonton, the attacker did not get a new contract with the Oilers after the 2015/16 season, so he joined the New Jersey Devils as a free agent in July 2016 . In the same way, he moved to the Calgary Flames in July 2017 . There, his expiring contract was not renewed after the 2017/18 season, so that he joined the San Diego Gulls from the AHL on a trial basis in September 2018 , which finally signed him in January 2019.
