Kyle Wesley "Lyle" Wagoner (born April 13, 1935 in Kansas City , Kansas - † March 17, 2020 in Westlake Village , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Family and education

Lyle Wagoner was born to Marie (Isern) and Myron Wagoner and spent several years of his childhood in Excelsior Springs , Missouri . In 1953 he graduated from Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood , Missouri, where he was active as a wrestler and high jumper , and then briefly studied at Washington University in St. Louis . He joined the United States Army , where he was stationed in West Germany and worked as a radio operator for two years .

After his discharge from the US Army studied Wagoner Engineering ( Mechanical Engineering ) at the General Motors Institute of Technology . To make a living, he worked as a salesman selling books and encyclopedias on the doorstep , encouraging his clients to pursue an acting career. Wagoner made his debut as an actor in the role of a muscle man in the musical adaptation of Li'l Abner (1959). He then built a small advertising company, which he used to finance a trip to Los Angeles to advance his acting career.

Career

Wagoner was inducted into the New Talent program at MGM , and later at 20th Century Fox . From the mid-1960s, Waggoner played regularly in film and television productions, including an episode of the TV series Rauchende Colts (1966). Wagoner was also in the final selection for the title role in the later classic series Batman , but lost to his colleague Adam West in the cast .

From 1967 he was seen in the Carol Burnett Show , a comedy and entertainment show, in which he participated as a presenter and as a performer in the show's numerous skits. In 1974, Wagoner dropped out on the Carol Burnett Show , hoping to be cast as the lead actor, and was replaced by Tim Conway . From 1976 to 1979 he was part of the regular cast of the TV series Wonder Woman with Lynda Carter in the lead role.

In the 70s and 80s, Waggoner took part in some cinema and television films, where the brown-haired, tall actor was mainly cast as a handsome hero or lover. He also took on numerous guest and episode roles, including in the television series Charlie's Angels (1980), Golden Girls (1993) and several times in Love Boat , Fantasy Island and Mord ist her Hobby .

Entrepreneur

In 1979 Wagoner founded his own company, Star Waggons , a company that rented out luxury caravans for actors, make-up artists and other staff for the duration of film productions , which were individually tailored to the needs of customers . In 1990, Wagoner co-produced and hosted the Consumer America sales show , which presented novel US home products. Wagoner also hosted the infomercial format Let's Talk With Lyle Wagoner , which marketed a natural product that was supposed to prevent impotence in men.

Private and death

Wagoner was married to actress, wealth advisor, and real estate agent Sharon Kennedy. The couple married in September 1960. Wagoner had two sons, Jason and Beau. He lived in Wyoming for many years . He was also active as a sculptor and created artistic-erotic female figurines.

Wagoner died at the age of 84 at his home around Los Angeles in a cancer .

Miscellaneous and trivia

In 1973, Wagoner was the first celebrity model to be photographed naked in the middle of the magazine as a "center fold " for the June issue of the US erotic and lifestyle magazine Playgirl, with the exception of the genital area . In 1976 Wagoner was named Mayor of Encino , California , an honorary post for the local Chamber of Commerce , where he served as an ambassador for local business development.
