Long distance from 1993 to 2002

In 1993 there was the first long-distance triathlon and from 1996 to 2002 the German championships were held here seven times in a row.

From 1995 onwards, the competition was held under the name IronMönch Triathlon as a case word from the Ironman Hawaii, which was held over the same competition distance and has become a deonym , and a brand of the main sponsor, the Kulmbacher Brewery AG . In order to avoid an impending legal dispute with the American company World Triathlon Corporation as the owner of the rights to the “Ironman” brand, the event was called “Mönchshof Triathlon” from 2003 onwards.

Middle distance from 2003 to 2011

The record of participants with around 900 starters at Lake Trebgaster was set in 2009 when the Bavarian Championships and the official celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the Bavarian Triathlon Association took place as part of the event.

In the individual years, the competition was alternately organized over the short, medium and long distance. The German Triathlon Union announced the German Championship thirteen times as part of the competition. The last race over the long distance was held in August 2002 - as the German Championship Triathlon Long Distance.

The event was shaped over the years by its head of organization, Wolfgang Pirl . In 1980 Wolfgang Pirl was one of Germany's top swimmers. B. qualified for the 1980 Olympic Games. Wolfgang Pirl was a founding member of the endurance sports club (ASV) Kulmbach and the Bavarian Triathlon Association, whose sports warden he was until his unexpected death in 2011 at the age of 54. That is why the 2012 anniversary event ran under the official name of Wolfgang Pirl Memorial Triathlon in the summer after his death .

Since 2013 the competition has been advertised under the name Kapuzineroholfrei Triathlon . Regardless of the name, the competition was preceded by a sequential numbering so that the 33rd Capuchin Alcohol-Free Triathlon took place on June 14, 2015 in Kulmbach .

On June 11, 2016, the 34th triathlon (short and medium distance) was canceled after a serious cycling accident. On May 28, 2017 there was a race over the sprint distance for the first time (0.75 km swimming, 20 m cycling and 4.8 km running).

The next sprint and short distance races will again be held on June 10, 2018.
