Magic Mike is an American film drama from the year 2012 . The film is loosely based on the experiences of main actor Channing Tatum , who worked as a stripper in Tampa , Florida when he was 20 years old .

action

Mike is 30 years old, a stripper and would love to design furniture. For his big dream, he tries to save as much money as he can and keeps afloat during the day with small jobs as a roofer or auto parts seller. At night, however, he is the coveted stripper Magic Mike and seduces a number of women. He works for Dallas, a former stripper who wants to swap his little shop in Tampa for a big one in Miami. One day Mike meets 19-year-old Adam on one of his day jobs. The two quickly get to know each other and Mike takes him to the club for his show. When one of the other dancers takes a drug overdose and cannot perform as a result, Adam is spontaneously chosen by Mike and Dallas as a replacement. He appears as a stripper for the first time under the name The Kid . Dallas and Mike immediately recognize the potential in Adam and he becomes a permanent part of the crew.

In the weeks that followed, Mike introduced Adam to his world and met Adam's sister Brooke. Brooke is very critical of her brother's new job and demands that Mike take responsibility for Adam and look after him. Adam agrees to a deal with Tobi, the club's DJ. Tobi is a dealer and not only supplies the group around Dallas, but also the viewers with ecstasy . Disaster breaks out at a student party where Mike and Adam are stripping. Adam, who is becoming more and more careless and self-indulgent because of the money, drugs and affection of the female population, gives one of the students present a pill. He is watched by the girl's friends, who then confront him and finally get violent. Mike and Adam need to flee quickly. Adam doesn't manage to take his backpack with him, in which he keeps Tobi's drugs worth $ 10,000.

Since Adam does not have enough money to pay off his debts to Tobi's contacts, Mike steps in with his savings. He realizes that the scene is no longer for him and that he would rather have a quieter life. While the crew is making their last appearance in Tampa, Mike leaves the club unregistered. Dallas then spontaneously names Adam his new number 1, which Adam gladly accepts. Mike drives to Brooke to tell her that he will not go to Miami with the others, but that he will make a fresh start in Tampa. They spend the night together.

criticism

“Entertaining film about sex as a business, which deals with role models and the downward spiral of heavy drugs and light sex; however, the contouring of the figures remains too much on the beautiful surface to reveal anything really provocative. "

“As in the best dance films, the dance and strip scenes in“ Magic Mike ”inspire regardless of the plot. Channing Tatum has a great stage presence, despite luscious muscles, he dances elegantly and immerses seamlessly in the music. […] In its best moments, “Magic Mike”, on the other hand, is very close to its great role model “Saturday Night Fever” and dares to explore where the proud display of masculinity turns into the opposite and becomes the merciless reification of men. [...] Even if “Magic Mike” gets darker over time and arguments, fraud and crashes increasingly dominate, there remains a literal glimmer of hope “

“All in all, Magic Mike has turned out to be a somewhat shallow, but definitely entertaining and likeable film. If the idea of stripping men is not against the principle of stripping and is in the mood for a nicely done, not too demanding drama, you can take a look at a somewhat different "dream job". "
