Maisons-en-Champagne is a French commune with 532 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the canton of Vitry-le-François-Champagne et Der (until 2015: canton of Vitry-le-François-Ouest ).

geography

The D501 department road runs through the town to the west of Vitry-le-François . The N4 runs south of the village . To the east of the village lies the La Garenne forest .

history

The population of the municipality increased from 305 inhabitants in 1962 to 490 in 2009. In the village is the church of Saint-Pierre.

The French writer Émile Clermont (1880-1916) died as a lieutenant in the French army in 1916 in Maisons-en-Champagne during the First World War .
