It belongs to the department of Marne , for Arrondissement Vitry-le-François , and is part of the Canton of Sermaize-les-Bains (2015: Canton Thiéblemont-Farémont ).

Cheminon is about eleven kilometers north-northwest of Saint-Dizier . Cheminon is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Pargny-sur-Saulx in the north and north-west, Sermaize-les-Bains in the north, Mognéville in the east and north-east, Beurey-sur-Saulx in the east, Trois-Fontaines-l'Abbaye in the south and Maurupt- le-Montois to the west.
