Sermaize-les-Brains is a municipality with 1,906 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Grand Est region in north-eastern France . It belongs to the Département Marne , the arrondissement Vitry-le-François , and is the capital of the canton of Sermaize-les-Bains (until 2015: canton Thiéblemont-Farémont ).

Sermaize-les-Bains is located on the Saulx , a tributary of the Marne and the Canal de la Marne au Rhin . Sermaize-les-Bains is surrounded by the neighboring communities Alliancelles in the north and north-west, Remennecourt in the north, Andernay in the east, Mognéville in the south-east, Cheminon in the south, Pargny-sur-Saulx in the west and south-west and Heiltz-le-Maurupt in the north-west.

The former route nationale 395 (today's D995) runs through the municipality .
