Mandern is an eastern district of Bad Wildungen, located directly on the Eder , and the easternmost town in the North Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg . The place currently has around 650 inhabitants.

geography

The district extends from the Eder in the north to the Sengelsberg in the south. To the east, it borders on the Fritzlar district of Ungedanken in the Schwalm-Eder district , to the west on that of the Wildung district of Wega , to the south on that of Wenzigerode , a district of Bad Zwesten in the Schwalm-Eder district.

history

The first documented mention of the "Ederdorf" Mandern ("Mandium") comes from the year 1044. However, it is assumed that there was already settlement in the area of ​​today's Manderns during Carolingian times .

In the 13th century, Tammo von Beltershausen owned Mandern. In 1240 he donated a farm to the Berich monastery in Mandern, and in 1255 he reached an agreement with the Berich monastery about the payment of annual interest from Mandern.

On December 31, 1971, Mandern became part of Bad Wildungen as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

Buildings

Sights in the village include the church, old half-timbered houses and the so-called "Edermuschel", a pavilion in the shape of a shell . The latter was Mandern's contribution to the 2006 State Garden Show in Bad Wildungen.

The sports club (SV) Blau-Weiß Mandern, founded in 1952, offers sporting activities in Mandern. Since 1991 a men's soccer team of the club and the club has been participating in games as a game community out of Unthought . In addition to the football department, there is also a gymnastics department .

Other associations are the Carnevals Club, which has existed since 1969, the music association, the mixed choir and the community of fairground boys and girls. The music association was founded in 1960 and made Mandern famous in the region for its good music. There is also a volunteer fire brigade .

The most important annual events in Mandern are the carnival event , the fair in spring and the village festival on the last weekend in August.
